Women and Money – Let's Talk

Wednesday, July 16th, 6:30 p.m.

Prices are up, stocks are down, but women still have the power to take control of their finances and their lives. The National Organization for Women-NYC hosts Diane MacPhee, business coach and certified financial planner, to tell you how. Uncover what you really think about your money, learn to evaluate your saving and spending habits, find out what goals you should set for yourself, and get sound advice in an unstable market. Join NOW-NYC for a discussion to get empowered and get real about your money.

 Learn more about this event!

The event will take place at the NOW-NYC Office on 150 W 28th Suite 304. Call today to RSVP: 212.627.9895 or email contact@nownyc.org.

Safe Harbor Act Passes!
Urge Governor Paterson to Help Sexually Exploited Children Today

The Safe Harbor Act (A.5258-c/S.3175-c) has finally passed in the NYS Senate and Assembly. Contact Governor Paterson today to urge him to sign the bill into law. The Safe Harbor Act will stop the arrest, prosecution, and incarceration of children involved in prostitution. Instead of punishing these children for being being victims of sexual exploitation, the bill requires the state to create a range of community-based services so that these children can reclaim their young lives. NOW-NYC Joins LGBT Pride

On June 29th, NOW-NYC's Queer Advocacy Project marched in the 2008 NYC LGBT Pride Parade. Over one million people came to celebrate LGBT pride, and cheered us through the heat, the thunder, and the rain. Thanks to everyone who joined us to call for queer equality NOW! Pictures will be posted shortly.

Support Equal Marriage in NYS

Contact Gov. Paterson (518-474-8390) to thank him for issuing his directive on same-sex marriages in NYS. More.

Support NY's
Reproductive Health Act
Now that the Supreme Court has demonstrated it is no longer willing to put the health of women first, we need to ensure that New York's law is updated to protect women's health and remain beacon for choice. This act will safeguard a women's right to access safe and legal abortion. Support the Act

Bias Busters:
Help Us Monitor Sexist Media & Advertising

NOW-NYC is always on Media Watch to report biased coverage and advocate for diversity of media ownership and participation. Now you can help us take on the harmful advertising that denigrates women and girls. Find out how you can help us with our "Bias Busters" campaign and fight sexist ads. More info.
Birth Control Cri$is!!!
Birth control costs have risen dramatically (up to 10 times!) since the Deficit Reduction Act took effect this year, leaving students and low-income women out in the cold. The act effectively ended the discounted rates that college health centers and safety-net providers like Planned Parenthood had available to them to provide wide access to birth control. NOW-NYU and other student groups held a rally calling on Congress to restore affordable access!
