NOW-NYC’s annual gala honors exemplary women who have boldly forged their way to the top of their industries, breaking barriers along the way, and earning the title of pioneer and role model. Each year we gather to celebrate these extraordinary women working in business, finance, entrepreneurship, technology, law and government.
Meet Our 2018 Honorees
Gretchen Carlson, Acclaimed TV Journalist & Women’s Empowerment Advocate
Gretchen Carlson, named one of TIME Magazine’s 100 most influential people in the world, is a 20-year veteran of television news. She is credited with ushering in a new era of workplace sexual harassment accountability and has traveled the country empowering women to be the change makers to lead our culture forward. In 2015, Gretchen’s first book, Getting Real, became a national best-seller. Her highly-anticipated second book, Be Fierce: Stop Harassment and Take Your Power Back, debuted in 2017 as New York Times bestseller. This ground-breaking book shares Gretchen’s experience, powerful stories from the thousands of women who have reached out to her, and other experts helping to confront this problem and advance what has become an international conversation. Most recently, Gretchen has been brought on as the chairwoman of the new Miss America organization in a volunteer capacity.
Karen L. Halby, Senior Vice President, Head of Global Tax Office, Sony Corporation
Karen Halby is Senior Vice President and Head of the Global Tax Office at Sony Corporation – one of the most iconic Japanese multinational conglomerates. As a member of Sony’s executive leadership, and the first woman in this global executive role, she is charged with overseeing all tax matters for Sony and its various divisions worldwide.
Starting her career at Sullivan & Cromwell and Latham & Watkins, Karen went on to hold key leadership positions in corporate tax at PepsiCo and Coty prior to joining Sony in 2000. Karen formed the Sony global tax organization in 2001, which today has offices in New York, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Singapore and London.
Kirstin Hill, Managing Director and Strategic Performance Executive, Merrill Lynch Wealth Management and Bank of America Global Wealth & Investment Management
Kirstin Hill is a Managing Director and Strategic Performance Executive for Merrill Lynch Wealth Management at Bank of America, overseeing growth strategy, market planning, advisor compensation, field communication and recognition programs. Prior to this role, Ms. Hill led the Personal Retirement Solutions business for Bank of America Merrill Lynch, where she was responsible for the Merrill Lynch Preferred Segment Solutions and Merrill Edge channels. Ms. Hill is the executive sponsor for the Merrill Lynch Millennial Advisory Board, is a member of the Women’s Exchange Advisory Council and provides leadership to the Merrill Lynch Women’s Forum.
Linda Findley Kozlowski, Chief Operating Officer of Etsy
Linda Findley Kozlowski is Chief Operating Officer of Etsy, the online global marketplace for unique and creative goods and the leader in this e-commerce market. She brings more than twenty years of experience in operations, international marketing, business development, and public relations. Prior to joining Etsy in 2016, Ms. Kozlowski was COO of Evernote, where she oversaw worldwide operations, and led cross-functional teams in offices across 7 countries. Previously, she was based in Hong Kong and led global marketing, business development, and customer service for Alibaba.com. Ms. Kozlowski sits on the boards of Dress for Success and StyleSeat.
Beth Levine, Senior Vice President of Regeneron Pharmaceuticals
Beth Levine is Senior Vice President, Associate General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer of Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a biotechnology pioneer that is advancing innovative medicines for serious diseases including cancer, heart disease and eye disease. As part of the executive leadership, Beth has helped grow Regeneron into a $40B industry leader with over 6,000 employees operating in six locations in the US and Europe. Consistently hailed as one of the top 10 most innovative companies by Forbes, Regeneron has invented new technologies for drug discovery and development and leads one of the largest human genetics sequencing efforts in the world.
Angela Mwanza, Private Wealth Advisor of Evergreen Wealth Management at UBS Private Wealth Management
Angela Mwanza is a Private Wealth Advisor of Evergreen Wealth Management at UBS Private Wealth Management. She specializes in multi-generational family and family business transition, governance, impactful philanthropy, as well as socially responsible investment strategies focused on impact. Angela is widely recognized for her commitment to global public health and serves on multiple non-profit boards including Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, Johnson at Cornell, Grassroot Soccer, Global Health Alliance, Beespace, and is a Founding Member of the UN Foundation Global Entrepreneurs Council.
Dr. Janet Yellen, Distinguished Fellow at the Brookings Institution and former Chair of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System
Dr. Janet Yellen is an American economist and the immediate past Chair of the US Federal Reserve, appointed by President Obama in 2014. She is the first and only woman to assume this rank in US history. Previously serving as Vice Chair of the Federal Reserve from 2010 to 2014, Dr. Yellen was also President and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco; and Chair of the White House Council of Economic Advisers under President Bill Clinton.
Dr. Yellen is now a Distinguished Fellow in Residence with the Economic Studies Program at the Brookings Institution. A Professor Emerita at the University of California at Berkeley, Dr. Yellen is a member of both the Council on Foreign Relations, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
Meet Our 2018 Gala Chair
Michelle McCloskey, President of Americas at Man Group and Man FRM
Michelle McCloskey is President of Americas at Man Group and President of Man FRM. She is based in New York and is a member of the Executive Committee of Man Group, a London-listed asset manager which oversees approximately $110B across a range of alternative and long-only investment strategies in liquid and private markets around the world. In a career spanning more than 30-years, Michelle has run trading and hedging books for energy companies and large investment banks. She joined Man Group’s multi-manager business in 2006 and has extensive experience in hedge fund portfolio construction, asset allocation and risk management. Michelle is a Trustee for the US Charitable Trust and leads Man Group’s Drive (diversity and inclusion) network in the US, which is engaged in community outreach with girl’s schools in the New York City area. She was recognized by National Organization for Women in the 2017 Women of Power and Influence Awards.
