Major Anti-Abortion Bill Passes the House!
H.R. 7, misleadingly called the “No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act”, has just passed the House.
What proponents of this anti-choice legislation are not telling you is that NO federal funding has actually gone to abortion services since 1976, because of the anti-woman Hyde Amendment that prevents any federal dollars from covering abortion services for low-income women.
In fact, 75% of women seeking abortions in the US are poor or low-income women. The severe restrictions that are already in place disproportionately impact low-income women, young women, and women of color.
H.R.7 takes these restrictions even further – also limiting access to anyone who receives their health insurance through the federal government. This includes federal employees, military service members, incarcerated people, Native Americans who use Indian health service facilities, and people insured through Medicaid.
Find out here if your Representative voted for or against the bill. Give them a call and either thank them for their vote in standing with women, or voice your outrage at their support for denying women the healthcare they need.
We need to ensure H.R.7 does not pass the Senate – call your Senator and tell them to block this bill!
