Giving Women a New Voice in Politics
NOW-NYC President Sonia Ossorio and Kathy Hochul, candidate for Lieutenant Governor, announce efforts to create the Women’s Equality Party ballot line in New York. To get on the ballot 15,000 signatures will have to be collected by August 15, 2014. The party would work to influence public policy, elect candidates who support the provisions of the Women’s Equality Act and promote additional issues critical to women and girls.
“The women’s equality party will send a loud message that women are paying close attention this election cycle,” Ossorio said. “Elected officials should understand that women’s economic empowerment can be a driver for our economy. Our health and safety matter. What happens to women, happens to families.”
In order to create the ballot line we need your help to collect signatures from registered New York voters. Interested in petitioning? E-mail firstname.lastname@example.org. Learn more about this exciting initiative here. You can be part of making history!
