Activist Night: Lobbying 101
Make your voice heard! Lobbying 101 is a free leadership training session designed to give individuals the skills to make their voice heard in government. Learn to identify targets for your cause, speak constructively with legislators, form and present respectful counter-arguments, and prepare for in-person meetings. You will walk away with real-world tools and techniques to help influence public policy and confidence in your ability to speak with and educate state legislators.
Women’s issues are issues for all New Yorkers. In New York City, 40% of single mothers and their children live in poverty; the poverty rate for women age 65 and over is one in five, almost double the national rate; the number of rapes has increased by 57% since 2009, and full-time working women in the metropolitan area face a 15% wage gap. Dismantling the barriers that exist for women is at the crux of reducing our city’s growing economic divide, a central promise of the incoming administration and one that has a clear mandate from New York voters.
Join NOW-NYC as we prepare to lobby in support of the Women’s Equality Act and its provision to strengthen our human trafficking laws in New York State. Learn how you can push important legislation forward. So what are you waiting for? RSVP today!
