Families Belong Together – Brooklyn Rally
Jeff Sessions is single-handedly diminishing the urgency of gender-based violence, by closing our borders to victims of domestic violence and disqualifying domestic violence as a valid reason for asylum. According to Sessions, domestic violence is a private matter, and state-sponsored violence will be the only violence in which the government should intervene. Sessions, in effect, seeks to narrow the definition of what qualifies for asylum and reject women fleeing domestic abuse.
The policies of the current administration are not only unethical and immoral, they are in direct violation of The 1967 Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees and the International Covenant on Civil and Political rights. These policies not only separate children as young as 18 months from their families, they leave children vulnerable to agents accused of numerous transgressions, including physical and sexual assault.
The more people, the bigger the statement.
This is a nonviolent protest sponsored by The Action Network and Families Belong Together.
