ALLY EVENT: Freedom Fast: Time’s Up Wendy’s March
For generations, farmworker women have endured sexual violence in the fields. In 2011, the Fair Food Program finally put an end to sexual harassment and assault for tens of thousands of workers by harnessing the purchasing power of more than a dozen of the world’s largest retail food companies, including all of the major fast-food brands.
All except Wendy’s.
Rather than join the most effective human rights program in agriculture today, Wendy’s has chosen to partner with an industry where its brand will be protected because women there are forced into silence by fear, violence, and corruption.
We’re breaking that silence here in NYC. From March 11-15, farmworkers from Immokalee are undertaking a five day Freedom Fast outside the offices of Wendy’s Board Chair and largest shareholder, Nelson Peltz, to demand that Wendy’s join the Fair Food Program. The fast will culminate on Thursday, March 15, with the Time’s Up Wendy’s March at 5:00 PM at Dag Hammarskjold Plaza.
#TimesUp for leaders like Mr. Peltz who have the power to end sexual violence against women, and instead, do nothing.
