Women hold only 19.8% of the seats in Congress and 27.7% of seats in our New York State legislature. Out of the 51 seats in the New York City Council, only 11 are held by women. NOW-NYC is committed to increasing women’s representation: we are educating voters on the women’s rights credentials of local candidates, working to elect pro-choice and pro-women’s rights leaders to represent our city, and lobbying for a strong platform of equality that cuts across issues.
