Rep. Faso a No-Show at Women’s Town Hall
Representative John Faso failed to show up at NOW New York’s Hudson Valley Women’s Town Hall on Saturday, June 3rd, 2017. The Women’s Town Hall aimed to kick-off a conversation between the Representative and his constituents, including survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, about the importance of protecting the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA).
Faso’s voting record reveals his staunch anti-choice and anti-women’s health agenda, voting against “equal pay for equal work”, and a bipartisan-backed bill that guaranteed safer access to reproductive services. Sonia Ossorio, President of the National Organization for Women – New York, said, “Congressman Faso missed a genuine opportunity to listen to the women he represents about the ways violence has changed the course of their lives and the ripple effect it has throughout the district on children and families. Thousands of women in his district are impacted by violence every year. These women deserve a representative in Washington who will show up for them when it matters. Congressman Faso is clearly not that person.”
Despite Faso’s silence, over 100 concerned activists attended the town hall where numerous survivors bravely shared their personal experiences with domestic violence and sexual abuse. Co-sponsors of the event included the Columbia County Democratic Committee, Hudson Valley Feminists, Hudson Valley Strong, Indivisible 19, Indivisible Chatham, NY19 Votes, and Upper Hudson Planned Parenthood.
Show Rep. Faso and others that we won’t stand for apathy on ending violence against women. Click here to find your representative and call them about the importance of VAWA and protecting women’s rights — together, we can create a future where all women and girls have freedom from violence.
