It’s Time for an Upgrade New York!
On May 13th, NOW-NYC and its members traveled to Albany to push forward a BIG women’s rights agenda.
Couldn’t be on the bus? There’s still PLENTY more that you can do!
1. Call your State Senator
(connect via Senate Switchboard: 518.455.2800
Let your Senator know: “I want the Senate to vote on the full Women’s Equality Act (A.8070) this year, because women’s health and women’s lives matter. As a voter living in your district, I hope you will let women know where you stand. Please vote to make the Women’s Equality Act law.”
2. Call Your Assemblymember
connect via Assembly Capitol switchboard: 518.455.4100
Let your Assemblymember know: “Thank you for being a leader on women’s rights and for passing the full Women’s Equality Act. I have urged my Senator to do the same. I also hope that you will support the Trafficking Victims Protection and Justice Act (A.2240D/S.5879B). Selling children for sex is an urgent matter, and trafficking victims can’t wait.”
Women’s issues are issues for all New Yorkers.
In New York City, 40% of single mothers and their children live in poverty; the poverty rate for women age 65 and over is one in five, almost double the national rate; the number of rapes has increased by 57% since 2009, and full-time working women in the metropolitan area face a 15% wage gap. It’s time for an upgrade New York! We need laws as strong as New York women.
