1/10 Protest in Greenpoint: NYPD Take Rape Seriously
A commanding officer of the NYPD said that if you are raped on a Tinder date or by a friend, it’s not as much of an “abomination” as being raped by a “true” stranger.
This is outrageous. Join us in Greenpoint tomorrow to take a stand. We want to hear directly from the Police Commissioner about how he will ensure every commanding officer in every precinct takes EVERY rape seriously.
Take Action NOW
Call the NYPD Commissioner and demand that the NYPD take rape seriously and instruct Captain Peter Rose to put full resources into investigating ALL rape cases.
Call NYPD Commissioner James O’Neill at 646.610.5410
Here’s a script to help you:
“Good evening, Commissioner O’Neill, my name is . I’m a New York City resident and a member of the National Organization for Women. I am appalled at the callous comments of Captain Rose of the 94th precinct which places more importance on some rapes over others. Rape is an egregious and violent crime and must be taken seriously regardless of whether or not a victim knows the attacker. Captain Rose, the 94th precinct and the NYPD must demonstrate to the public that they are taking every rape seriously.”
Why are Tinder rapes, cab rapes, or rapes by coworkers not as serious as stranger rapes? .@NYPDONeill: Women demand better. #TakeRapeSeriously
