We offer internships for the spring, fall and summer semesters with the opportunity to participate directly in our programming, fundraising and organizing efforts. Interns will gain exposure to the inner workings of a women’s advocacy organization and play an important role in planning and implementing actions and events. If you are passionate about women’s rights or want experience in the nonprofit sector, then this internship is for you!

We have two internship tracks

Women’s Rights

Interns will gain valuable experience in grassroots activism, assisting with campaigns, programs and actions to advocate for the women and girls of New York.

Development and Fundraising

Interns will be exposed to a wide range of development activities including database management, event planning, researching potential donors, and gift processing.

Hours: 12-16 hours per week in Fall & Spring;
3-4 days a week for 4 weeks in Summer
Pay: Stipend

Women’s Rights
  • Manage social media accounts
  • Write and update website content for campaigns, actions, news and events
  • Help organize and participate in rallies, protests and special events
  • Conduct policy research and draft talking points
  • Design outreach and weekly communications
  • Provide information and referrals over the phone to women in need
  • Assist with donor research, prospecting and other development efforts
  • Provide administrative support to staff as needed
Development and Fundraising
  • Donor research and prospecting
  • Maintain donor database
  • Create and edit development materials e.g. solicitation and acknowledgment letters
  • Assist with event management and logistics for annual gala
  • Provide general administrative support for the development department
  • Provide information and referrals over the phone to women in need
  • Provide administrative support to staff as needed

“This internship showed me what it was like to work with a non-profit. I got to see the back end of how big events work, how social media is managed, and how campaigns are run. I got to understand the nitty-gritty details that go into producing smooth sailing work at a non-profit organization focused on women’s issues—a field in which I intend to pursue as a career after I graduate. This internship gave me a great sneak peek into what I intend to do after college.”

We are seeking highly motivated undergraduate or graduate students who display the following:

  • Professional and responsible demeanor
  • Commitment to NOW’s mission and advocacy for women’s rights
  • Ability to work independently and see projects through to completion
  • Detail-oriented and ability to manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines
  • Excellent research, writing and communication skills (web writing experience is highly desirable)
  • Experience using social media (for professional purposes is desirable)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (google docs, graphic design and video editing skills are a plus)

Applications are accepted for the following periods — Summer (June to August), Fall (September to December), and Spring (January to May).

Email your resume to [email protected] . Please clearly indicate which internship track you are applying for and what your daily availability is (e.g. full days on Mondays & Tuesdays, and half days on Thursday & Fridays).
