New York's Constitution Enshrines Right To Abortion
Amid challenging times, we are proud that New York voters turned out in powerful numbers to pass Proposal 1, the New York Equal Rights Amendment! With 73% of the vote, this historic amendment—the most expansive of its kind—has enshrined critical protections in our state constitution. Thanks to you, abortion rights are now protected under the state Constitution. The amendment upholds equality and freedom for women, pregnant New Yorkers, LGBTQ+ individuals, immigrants, and people with disabilities.
Though the recent election has been difficult and there’s much to unpack, this is a victory that belongs to you, and we hope you find joy in it . Your tireless efforts paid off and there’s more uplifting news to celebrate. New York joined six other states this cycle—Colorado, Arizona, Maryland, Missouri, Montana, and Nevada—in enshrining reproductive rights in their constitutions. Together, we’ve shown the strength of our collective voice and our unwavering dedication to protecting fundamental freedoms.
Thank you to everyone who knocked on doors, made calls, and helped spread the word about Prop 1 and all that was at stake this election. Your continued commitment brings hope and resilience to our movement. Your efforts have made a lasting impact, and we couldn’t be more grateful to you!
Our fight for equality continues!
